Setup a Website for Free

Setup a Website for Free | The Word Press Factor

You really can setup a website for free. All you need is the enough money to get web hosting and, you may even able to get hosing for free. A domain name may cost from 7 to 10 Dollars, depending on the hosting company you use. Be careful with free web hosting deals. Company’s usually have stipulations where they can add banners to your website until you pay to have them removed. If you can get enough money together to get hosting month to month,  that would be great.

I’m recommending Godaddy for web hosting because I use them for my websites.  I prefer websites made with Word Press but set to be static. You’ll see what that means as you continue to read. Don’t worry, at one time I didn’t know how to create a website using Word Press and I build websites regularly. After a lot of trial and error, I learned how to put a site together and you will too.

Word Press is free to use if you have hosting. Godaddy’s system is the easiest I have found so far. I had hosting with other companies but I prefer Godaddy because of the good service. I see a lot of other web builders also using Host Gator as well.

Also, Word Press is not the only place to setup a free blog. I just started using it and I really like it now. The nice thing is, it’s free and easy to use. You might say that it’s easy for me because I know how it works. After reading this article you will know how to set use it too.

You will need a domain name before you get started. Please read the article I wrote on domain registration names. You will find 5 reasons why I believe domain names should have your main keywords in them.

Hopefully the article will help you get the right domain name for your website.

Now that you have your domain name you’ll need to get web hosting and you don’t have to use Godaddy. You can use whatever is familiar to you. You should be able to follow the steps below to setup your website for free.

Here are the log in steps to use Word Press as your main website:

Log into your hosting account and find the software for Word Press.

When using Godaddy, you’ll click on hosting tab on the far left side. The page will automatically scroll down to a green button that says
LAUNCH.

The link will take you to the hosting control center where you will find 4 buttons labeled “Your files”, “Your applications”, “Your Domains” and “Your E mail”.

Click on the button that says “You’re Applications” (Manage site quick-install apps).

This link will take you to a page called Godaddy Hosting Connection. On the left side menu you will see a list if links. You want to click on the link called “Blogs”.  The link will unclasps and reveal more links…

When the link opens up you will see Word Press 3.0.1
.

Click on Word Press.

You will then see an orange colored INSTALL NOW Button.

After you click on you the orange button, you will see the domain name you chose for your website.

Click on the gray radio button to select your domain name and click the NEXT button.

You will have to put in some passwords that you should keep track of so you won’t have to call Godaddy to help you find them later.

After inputting passwords, click the next button and fill in another set of passwords. These passwords are for logging into your account on a regular basis to edit your website.

The next step is to choose a directory that you want to install your files in.

Since you are not setting up a blog style website, you need to remove the words in the box that say Word Press. That is where you do not want to install your website. Removing Word Press deletes that directory and allows your files to be installed on your server as your primary website and not yourwebsite.com/blog. Once you have remove Word Press from the box, click on the install button.

The Word Press files will now become yourwebsite.com and no blog. It could take a few minutes or even 24 hours for files to propagate. It usually doesn’t take that long.

Get a fresh browser, type in your domain name in about twenty minutes and presto, you have set up a website for free using Word Press. Once you get it set up start playing around in the dash board to see what is available. You’ll be able to change the themes and get a different look from the standard template they install. Look around.

If you have any problems go back to step one and go through this article again.

5 Steps to setting up a website for free:
The best ideas come from subjects you already know something about. Everybody knows something about something. Get a pen and paper and jot down some ideas. If you’re planning to sell a product based on your subject, do market research before you begin. Type the product

1. Brainstorm for and Idea.

2. Choose a domain name with your Keywords in them.

3. Get a hosting account with whomever you like.
Godaddy makes it really easy to setup a website on a Word Press platform and the customer service is 24 hours per day.

4. Load the software as your primary website and not as a blog.
This requires you move Word Press that sits next to the path and looks like this: createawebsiteplan.com/wordpress. Some people change Word Press to/blog. If you remove it the directory changes and the Word Press becomes your website and not a blog

5. Setup Permalinks and Static page for website.

Go to Dashboard – Settings – Permalinks – Select Day and name (make links easier to read)
Create two pages; one called blog or news and the other the main title of your website.
Go to Dashboard – Settings – Reading – Select “A static page”
Choose the home page you created as the static page and the blog/news page for posts.

Of course there is more you can do to optimize your new website but, you just setup a free website. Awesome!
